Andy Ziker
Drumset, Snare, Bells, Mallets, Latin Percussion (bongos, congas)

When he was young, Andy played in a number of bands while studying with Billy "Stix" Nicks, a brilliant drum instructor in Indiana. His musical momentum flourished with the continuous support of his dad, as he performed diverse musical styles including rock, new wave, blues, jazz, Latin, and pop rock.

Along the way, he began teaching drum lessons at Linton Milano’s Music, and then graduated from Arizona State University with a degree in music in 1991. Inspired by his first wife, Rena, he earned a master’s degree in Elementary Education in 1995. He continued to play freelancing drum gigs around town, while teaching fourth graders for five years, and middle school science for one year. Drum teaching has remained a constant in his life for 17 years.

Studying drumming has led Andy to connect with numerous mentors such as Don Bothwell, Jeff Hamilton, Colin Bailey, and Dom Famularo. Thanks to funding from the Arizona Commission on the Arts grant program, he has expanded his training to include one week per year in New York City with John Riley.

Andy recently finished the 2nd edition of a drum instructional book called Drumscapes, which is on sale at Linton Milano Music. He also designed Sticky “Notes”, which are also sold at Milano’s.

Dave Schreck
Drums, Bongos, Congas, Xylophone, All Percussion

Dave Schreck is an accomplished drummer and percussionist. He has been playing professionally since 1988 and has been teaching at Linton-Milano Music since 1991. He is well known and respected in the Arizona region.

Born in July of 1968 in Milwaukee, WI, Dave began playing the snare drum at age 10, and, by age 13, was teaching himself to play the drum set. In high school, he received numerous soloist awards at jazz band competitions, and formed his first “working” band by his senior year. Upon graduation, Dave attended Arizona State University on a music scholarship, eventually earning his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1991. Since then, he has been a private drum and percussion instructor at Linton-Milano Music in Mesa, AZ and playing professionally in various Arizona based bands such as The Scones, The Clockpeople, Harry Luge and Haywire, and, most recently, the Chris Parker Project. Dave has toured extensively throughout Europe and the US, and also had a brief stint as part of rock legend Alice Cooper’s local backup band. Now, he resides in Gilbert, AZ with his wife, Karen, and his daughter, Lara.

Through his 15 years of private music teaching experience, Dave has amassed a virtual library of thought-provoking and inspiring drum practice exercises, many of which he wrote himself. He is currently turning this “library” into a method book series called Drum Builders. The first book should be completed by late 2007. Dave believes in strong foundations and emphasizes technique as well as coordination and musicality in his lesson program. He has studied and performed all styles of music including Rock, Heavy Metal, Funk, Jazz, and Latin, and is especially fond of Double-Bass Drumming. Playing along to popular songs and recording his students performances are two of the ways Dave keeps his lessons fresh and interesting. Along with drum set, he also teaches other “school-based” percussion such as bells, marimba, congas, and marching snare drum and quads.
