Savor the Season

Elma Allen Milano

Remember how we dreamed of, and yearned for, being grown up while we were still growing up? I remember how I yearned for children during the eight years I was a motherless wife. Hopefully, since I've been blessed with six special children, I have shown my appreciation by being a fine progenitor to my posterity.

We have seasons of the year. We have seasons in our lives. If we can recollect our seasonal blessings it will add much zest to our lives. And why not? Why not take time to smell the blossoms of spring? Why not take time to gaze on the golds of autumn? Why not take time to appreciate our loved ones' seasons? Some songwriters apparently were able to savor each season. For example, here are a few phrases from tunes which demonstrate seasonal appreciation:

Sunshine

"Wake with the buttercups, come on, get up, get up, Here comes the sun.
Lovers are hand in hand, This is the promised land, Daydreams are done.
Laugh your troubles are over, Half the battle is won.
Wake with the buttercups, come on, get up, get up, Here comes the sun!"

Rain

"Of all the gifts in God's domain, I think the most sublime is rain.
The rain that keeps the earth renewed, With infinite solicitude,
That leaves behind when it departs, A rainbow just for weary hearts.
When God first saw the world in pain, I think He wept, and called it, rain. "

Spring

Spring is in the air and skies are clear,
Spring is in the air and you are here,
Life will be the way it used to be, .
Now that you are here with me.

Winter

Sleigh bells ring, are you listening?
In the lane, snow is glistening.
A beautiful sight, we're happy tonight
Walking in a Winter Wonderland!

Every season brings its special tasks, and every season brings its special
fruits. Let us thank God for life's seasons and savor our childhood, young man and
womanhood, adulthood, parenthood, yes, and even the peace of seniorhood!
