Healthy Hydration

Elma Allen Milano

Every time I read a book on good health, it always stresses the importance of drinking enough pure water daily. Miracles have been wrought by having people with health problems fast from food and drink pure water instead.water One article on health which
impressed me brought out the fact of how much water is required for brain activity. It made me wonder how children get along once they are weaned. No wonder they drink so much soda pop and unhealthy liquids. It has been a "pet peeve" of mine for years now about the amount of sodas our generation consumes. In my opinion, this is an unhealthy habit. It is not only addictive, but is hard on the kidneys and other organs. As a result, there could be an increase of health problems.

I wish I were more of an authority on what hydration can do for us, but I am a neophyte on the subject. I do, however, know how much better I feel when I drink eight to ten glasses of water a day.

orange treeMy back yard has seventeen fruit trees. When we planted them, we had a bountiful irrigation every ten days. Now, with a water shortage here in the Valley of the Sun, we get much less irrigation water. As a consequence, the leaves on my trees get quite curled and dry-looking between irrigations and the fruit from the trees has thicker skin, is tougher and not as juicy.

Because I do not like the taste, it has been easy for me abstain from popular carbonated drinks. At one time, when I was working long hard hours, we had a soda machine and I became addicted to a popular carbonated drink until I found it contained caffeine and then I cut it out of my intake.

sodaWhen I filled a mission in Missouri, my companion shared how her pet dog became addicted to a popular carbonated drink and began swelling up until he finally died.

I have twenty-eight grandchildren and forty great-grandchildren. I worry about the fact that most of them drink too many sodas. If I could see into their future I fear they will have unnecessary health problems.Howeyer, inasmuch as I am not their mother, I simply have to accept the situation; my job is to pass on what I have learned and encourage my loved ones to drink plenty of "Adam's Ale" so they can maintain a healthy level of hydration.

I hope this article motivates others to cut back on their soda intake, and instead, consume pure water for their hydration.
