Eight Helpful Truths

Elma Allen Milano

When we feel a sneeze coming, press firmly against the base of our nose where it joins the upper lip and the sneeze will stop.
When in doubt as whether to say, "He gave an apple to him and me" or "He gave an apple to he and I," just separate them. Say, "He gave an apple to him" and "He gave an apple to me." Therefore, correctly say, "He gave an apple to him and me." Here is another example: "He went to the show" and "I went to the show." Be correct by saying, "He and I went to the show."
To make sure we wear the most becoming colors, simply color-code ourselves. Take three pieces of dark material: black, brown and blue. Hold each one next to our skin free of any makeup. In this way, we can determine which color suits us best. Next, we can choose light colors best suited to the dark one we have selected.
Also decide whether gold or silver is our best basic jewelry color. All this will help a great deal toward our overall appearance.
Watch for lessons to be learned during times of trial. Develop a strong will by cheerfully enduring hardships. Think how people's characters were forged during times of trial, such as the Holocaust. See how people's faces soften after enduring pain and suffering. Notice how new mothers have a mature, angelic look.
Drink a glass of lemon and water on arising and then drink eight more glasses of water daily. Be sure the water is pure, sipped slowly and at room temperature. Avoid washing food down; stop drinking half-hour before eating and wait two hours after eating before drinking a lot of water. Eat a tossed salad first at our main meal and be sure it has plenty of dark, leafy greens. A lemon and oil dressing is healthiest. Beware of the "Three Ghostly Killers" which are: white sugar, white flour and white salt. Eat a variety of in-season produce and whole grains. Relax at meal time; chew our food slowly, thoroughly and think pleasant thoughts.
Be as active as we can; avoid being sedentary. Breathe deeply. Stretch and relax often. If possible, follow a regular exercise program. Try to be outside at dawn and dusk to view beautiful sunrises and sunsets.
Be aware of how we make others feel about themselves when they are around us. Look for good so we can pay them sincere compliments. Learn to listen well; do not monopolize conversations or talk about ourselves too much. Speak in a pleasant way. Tape record our voices to hear how we sound.
Be positive; avoid negativism; spread joy around. Smile! Smile! Smile!
